Our Story

HELLO, I’M SONIA,

the designer and badass maker behind Maison Phoenix.

I have always been a creative person, fascinated by the idea of making things.

When I was little I loved to draw and wanted to become a manga-ka. Over time, I lost touch with my artistic side and my career path ended up to be quite different from my childhood aspiration... 

My small business journey started during summer of 2017.

I had just left a promising corporate career behind to figure out what I really wanted to do in life. It was one of the hardest things I had ever done.

I begun exploring different crafts, experimenting and creating - almost - every day. After years of neglection, I was finally motivated to pursue a lost passion and rediscovered what really makes me feel good and happy.

My shop's name comes from the French term "Maison" (home) - a nod to the title of one of my favourite Japanese anime - and "Phoenix" 🐦‍🔥. More than once in my life I felt like coming to a dead end but then, similarly to the legendary bird, I somewhat managed to renew myself and raise gloriously to a new beginning.

All of my stationary features my original digital illustrations inspired by nature and by my childhood memories.

I taught myself to sew and I love to create accessories using vibrant and bold print fabrics.

Everything here is either handmade by me in small batches at my home studio (my bedroom!) or in collaboration with trusted suppliers to ensure high quality products with less impact on the environment.
